From morning ritual to midnight pour: meet the Matcha Martini

The world turned matcha green a while ago. We’ve watched it happen from behind the espresso machine at our Broadway Market cafe, whisking up lattes for the morning rush and the mid-afternoon slump.
You lot really love matcha. And honestly, so do we.
But with summer right around the corner and the days finally stretching out, that 5pm switch needs something a bit stronger than a latte, and here's our Midnight Oil solution for it.
Taking it after hours
If you know Midnight Oil, you know we started back in 2018 for one simple reason: we were tired of ordering espresso martinis made with terrible coffee. We took our Climpsons roastery expertise, developed a way to hot-brew and flash-chill proper espresso, and bottled it.
Now, we’re doing the exact same thing, but with matcha, an ingredient that we give a sh*t about just as much! We’ve had premium Lalani & Co matcha on our cafe menu since 2017. They’re a family of traditional tea merchants who deal in small-batch, Grade VI organic matcha from Japan. It’s vivid, earthy, and meticulously sourced. While a lot of the matcha world has gotten distracted by giant, syrupy drinks, we’ve always believed in doing it properly.
How we make it
We didn't just want to make a bright green drink for the sake of it. We wanted to build a bridge between the calm of your morning ritual and the buzz of a summer, electrifying night.
To make the Matcha Martini, we use the same tricks we learned from our coffee liqueur. We hot-whisk the Lalani & Co matcha to extract the true flavour, then flash-chill it to lock in that bright, fresh profile. From there, we mix it with oat milk, a whisper of Madagascan vanilla, and a solid pour of British wheat vodka.
It’s velvety, complex, and never overly sweet. (It also happens to be accidentally vegan).
